A Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in Fairfax, Virginia partnered with the American Warrior Initiative (AWI) to honor a local U.S. veteran. Along with a donation, a residential housing “Boot Camp” was held to train real estate professionals and mortgage planners on how to handle with excellence the home purchase needs of active duty military and veterans.
The honoree at the event was U.S. combat veteran Zachery Herrick. While serving in Afghanistan in 2011, Zachery was shot in the face by an enemy sniper. After being severely injured, Zachery spent three years at Walter Reed Hospital where he underwent more than 25 surgeries to repair his face. American Warrior Initiative and Fairway Independent Mortgage surprised Zachery with a new car at the event. Additionally, real estate agents who attended the training donated a total of $4,000 to be used toward Zachery’s car insurance and other family needs.
Branch manager Justin Exner was so excited to be part of this fantastic event. He said,
“An event like today is life-changing for everyone in attendance. You view veterans differently; we should be their watchdogs. Every person can make a small difference in a veteran’s life. What one thing can you do to help? Our entire team believes that mortgages are what we do, not who we are. We help people!”
Founded by Louise Thaxton and Sean Parnell, the American Warrior Initiative is a non-profit organization sponsored by Fairway Independent Mortgage. The AWI seeks to ease U.S. veterans’ transition from military to civilian life.
I am proud to work for a company that does so much to honor those who sacrifice for our country. If I can help answer any questions about VA loans or any other home loan options, give me a call.
